The Sturgeon Swims Through Time

A panel of the mural, painted by Rick Price of Beacon, with (left) Pam Golben, Curator of Living Exhibits and (right) Kirsten Kucer Exhibition Designer Consultant.
The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum announces the opening of: the Sturgeon Swims through Time – a Quadricentennial Exhibit to present 400 years of Hudson River History through the eyes of the Atlantic Sturgeon at the Museum’s Wildlife Education Center, 25 Boulevard, Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Sturgeon have been an interesting and integral part of the Hudson River’s history. These amazing fish have witnessed and withstood tremendous changes along the Hudson River over the past 400 years. Sturgeon are ancient fishes that have been around since before the dinosaurs. Their population has declined drastically since the early 1700’s due to over-fishing, pollution and destruction of habitat. Now protected, sturgeon populations are making a comeback.
Visitors will be greeted by a 77” Atlantic Sturgeon model and hands-on interactive element which will engage all visitors. The sturgeon will highlight historical elements including Henry Hudson’s river exploration and the Robert Fulton’s first steamship voyage.
